Iain McMillan is a freelance photographer based in Nottingham, UK, producing photographic images from natural history, including wildlife, nature and animal studies.

Iain is a keen wildlife photographer, based in a small village south of Nottingham, UK. He graduated from university in 2003, with an Hons in Environmental Science, encouraging his taste for / interest in all things natural.

In 2006, Iain was rewarded by having several of his images being commended and highly commended on the BBC Wildlife magazine web page, and came runner-up in the Daily Mail Spring Photo competition. This has given him the challenge to go on to take better and better images.

Iain's interest in nature and wildlife began at a very early age, when he used to sit and watch the bees at nursery school. He now enjoys regular walks around the local countryside, noticing changes in plants and wildlife through the year. However his interest in photography began around 6 years ago, whilst on holiday. After an unfortunate camera accident in the middle of the Canadian Rockies, he had to make do with a cheap, disposable camera for the duration of his trip. Once his (rather disappointing) pictures were developed, he just had to go back with better equipment and increased skill, and he set about learning and enjoying how to capture memorable images.

Iain’s ideal wildlife spot is in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Wildlife watching trips further afield have included Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, to see Arctic wildlife including Polar bears, Elk and Caribou; and Vancouver Island for whale watching trips.

However trips around the UK offer just as many wildlife possibilities, and Iain has recently been to the Lake District, Farne islands and the Peak District. Local sites are always giving opportunities to capture images that are frequently overlooked or just taken for granted. Photography is an ideal way to observe even every-day events and views more closely.
